I started my basic psychiatry training in Cardiff. After completing my MRCPsych and MSc, I moved to Bart’s and the Royal London Hospital to do my higher specialist training. In 2004, I joined Goodmayes Hospital (North East London NHS Foundation Trust) as a consultant, and now manage a busy outpatient clinic.
I have set up the psychiatric liaison service at King George Hospital, and have also developed a clinic for pregnant women. I am the lead consultant in the eating disorder service and treat patients with anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorders. I have actively been involved in audits and the teaching of both undergraduate medical and postgraduate MSc students.
At present, my research activities are on eating disorders, and my team participates in multi-center trials. As well as running a busy NHS practice, I am also a visiting consultant at the Priory Hospitals.
I am a general adult psychiatrist. But my special interests are eating disorders including obesity, pain management, PTSD, and adjustment disorders following major physical illnesses. I also do medico-legal work. I treat patients not only with medications but provide psychological therapies using the principles of Interpersonal therapy (IPT), EMDR, CBT, MBT, and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
