Dr Gabrielle Pendlebury is a child and adolescent psychiatrist. She has extensive experience of working with children and adolescents, including expertise in the assessment and support of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Her training was undertaken at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Medical School, London and the Maudsley and Bethlem Hospitals.

The assessment will focus on your main concerns, but involves lots of questions, to ensure we do not miss anything important.  You don’t have to answer any questions you don’t want to.  The aim is to reach a shared understanding of how things have developed to produce a comprehensive assessment.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment is based on evidence based best practice and meets NICE guidelines. It is a detailed and fully comprehensive autism assessment involving several components:

  • Questionnaires for parents and school to complete (before the assessment)
  • Online interview with parents to understand background and developmental history
  • Assessment of child, including the ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule)
  • Screening for other common mental health conditions, such as ADHD
  • An online feedback appointment for parents and psychiatrist (following the face-to-face assessment)
  • A written report with a diagnosis where one can be made and recommendations

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessment is based on evidence based best practice and meets NICE guidelines. This is a detailed and fully comprehensive ADHD assessment involving several components:

  • Questionnaires for parents, school, and your child (age dependent) sent before the appointment
  • Consultation with a Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Screening for other common mental health conditions
  • A full written psychiatric report that will follow the assessment
  • A diagnosis where one can be made
  • Treatment recommendations
